About The Position

Socket Fiber is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Project Manager to oversee construction and project management efforts in the Memphis, Tennessee market. This role is crucial for the company's rapid expansion of its fiber network. The Commercial Project Manager will partner closely with Outside Plant Design and Service Delivery Coordinators to ensure the successful delivery of fiber-optic services to new and existing customers. This position requires a solid understanding of network design and standard construction practices to manage the end-to-end delivery of data solutions. The role ensures projects are completed on time and within budget by providing clear, consistent updates to stakeholders and leading the coordination of technical activities with internal teams, external contractors, vendors, and government agencies, all while adhering to industry standards, company policies, and established procedures.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of fiber-optic network architectures, including underground and aerial construction methods, permitting requirements, industry-standard designs, and basic construction practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility maps, plant design drawings, as-built documentation, and civil engineering plans.
  • Familiarity with materials, equipment, utility locating procedures, required safety practices, and applicable local and state regulations governing underground utilities, equipment operation, and vehicle use.
  • Ability to operate and maintain small- to medium-sized equipment and company vehicles; complete required paperwork and documentation accurately and timely.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and familiar with GIS/ArcGIS systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and the general public to exchange information and receive work direction.
  • Well-organized, dependable, and detail-oriented with demonstrated leadership ability, a positive attitude, and strong listening skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple construction projects from initiation through completion, ensuring all work is delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
  • Partner with internal teams and key stakeholders to define project goals, deliverables, timelines, milestones, and compliance requirements, maintaining alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and site-level challenges, developing contingency plans and resolving issues through effective troubleshooting, negotiation, and mediation with clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Provide clear, consistent project updates through progress reports and presentations to stakeholders and company leadership, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making.
  • Conduct post-project reviews to evaluate outcomes, document lessons learned, and develop recommendations to improve future project performance.
  • Collect and validate data from contractors and consultants, maintaining accurate records of completed work, issues encountered, and resolutions achieved.
  • Review as-built documentation to confirm final service delivery details, including materials used, fiber routing, and customer-site termination.
  • Leverage project management software and standardized processes to drive efficiency, quality, and consistency across all phases of the project lifecycle.
