The Commercial Portfolio Manager supports the commercial loan and deposit portfolio of one or more CRE Relationship Managers providing quality underwriting, sound portfolio management and superior client service.   • Education: Four-year degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field; Graduation from a recognized school of banking is an asset or equivalent experience
  • Experience: Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in credit analysis, commercial real estate banking, business banking with at least 2 years of specific portfolio management and/or underwriting experience. Familiarity with loan structuring and loan documentation is required.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge in accounting and lending principles, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have an in-depth knowledge of Federal and State lending regulations and Bank policies related to lending procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Credit Underwriting & Transaction Structuring Conducts advanced financial analysis to evaluate creditworthiness for new CRE loan requests, renewals, and ongoing portfolio needs, ensuring alignment with Bank credit policy and risk frameworks.
  • Performs detailed industry, market, and project-level research to support CRE lending decisions and client conversations.
  • Prepares complete, accurate, and high‑quality commercial credit packages, including written credit memoranda that outline borrower background, project details, guarantor analysis, global cash flow, collateral evaluation, risk assessment, and final recommendations.
  • Utilizes specialized CRE credit tools and models when more sophisticated analysis is required (e.g., rent rolls, DSCR stress testing, cap rate sensitivity, absorption analysis).
  • Partners with Relationship Managers to structure transactions that meet customer objectives while ensuring prudent credit risk and compliance with the Bank’s lending philosophy.
  • Guides CRE loan requests through the full credit approval process, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and timely execution.
  • Portfolio & Risk Management Manages and monitors a portfolio of large and complex CRE relationships, ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory expectations, and risk rating standards.
  • Conducts ongoing portfolio surveillance, including covenant testing, financial statement analysis, exception management, annual reviews, and documentation verification.
  • Assigns and reviews risk grades with strong credit judgment; recommends changes as conditions evolve or material information becomes available.
  • Works proactively with Relationship Managers, Credit Administration, and Loan Operations to mitigate emerging risks, reduce past dues, and maintain asset quality.
  • Client & Internal Partner Engagement Supports Relationship Managers in preparing for and presenting credit requests to Credit Officers and senior credit committees.
  • Participates in client and prospect meetings to provide expertise on deal structure, underwriting considerations, and portfolio strategy.
  • Builds strong working relationships with internal partners including Credit Officers, Loan Operations, Leadership, Treasury, and Branch teams to streamline client service and portfolio processes.
  • Maintains productive relationships with external partners such as attorneys, appraisers, brokers, and developers to enhance deal execution and promote the Bank’s reputation in the CRE market.
  • Compliance, Governance & Professional Development Ensures strict adherence to regulatory requirements including State and Federal lending laws, Fair Lending, BSA/AML, CIP, and OFAC.
  • Remains knowledgeable of Bank products, services, and policies to better support client needs and portfolio performance.
  • Participates in ongoing professional training, staying current on CRE market trends, regulatory changes, and credit best practices.
  • Completes special projects and initiatives as assigned by Credit Administration leadership.
  • Team Collaboration & Client Advisory Acts as a strategic partner to Relationship Managers by providing insight-driven recommendations, risk management guidance, and credit expertise.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to clients and prospects, balancing strong credit discipline with a relationship-focused approach.
