About The Position

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Commercial Portfolio Manager I to join our team! This position will effectively manage a portfolio of commercial loans by leading and executing portfolio management strategies to balance new business growth while minimizing risk of loss. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Maintain and provide exceptional customer service to a substantial portfolio of commercial clients. Be responsive, knowledgeable and exceed customer expectations. Consistently execute processes and procedures to manage the portfolio and execute due diligence for new opportunities. Collaborate with relationship managers and portfolio team members in the diligence of new opportunities and identifying solutions for borrowers’ activity. Create a partnership between relationship managers and portfolio team members to be responsive to client needs as well as communicate bank solutions for borrower issues. Lead application of processes and procedures for due diligence for existing Commercial borrowers. In collaboration with commercial portfolio manager and relationship manager, provide oversight for due diligence including general business review, analysis of pertinent financial data and collateral profile, as applicable. As applicable, attend management presentations to interview existing clients and obtain information concerning their business needs, abilities, and earnings, and assess credit risk. Take ownership of a subset of portfolio loans (including but not limited to agented loans and loans with watchlist or worse grade), enforcing reporting quality and maintenance. Lead monitoring of current loans and customer’s credit profile to ensure complete conformity with terms. Ensure current credit and financial information is obtained as needed and/or that collateral is adequate. Review of financials with customers and provide expert advice as necessary. In collaboration with CPM II and CPM III, determine necessary action to be taken on responsible loans, includes establishing strategy for resolving issues pertaining to substandard and special mention loans. Remain cognizant of developing trends. Support employee development and training, motivate, coach, and mentor. Facilitate development of reporting tools to identify portfolio trends, new business credit metrics and prepare various scheduled management reports. Lead projects and develop new or refine existing efficiencies and processes as required. Remain current with all applicable regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of commercial banking experience.
