About The Position

Solid Rock Recruiting is partnering with a well-established commercial painting contractor in the Raleigh market to find an experienced Paint Estimator. This company has been in business for over three decades, building a strong reputation with general contractors, owners, and repeat clients in the private sector. They are stable, respected, and growing, seeking an estimator who can make an immediate impact. This is a hands-on role with leadership influence, where the right person will be instrumental in setting standards, improving processes, and winning profitable work. The role involves performing accurate commercial paint takeoffs, communicating effectively with construction partners, and driving awarded projects. Projects range from warehouses, hotels, churches, big-box retail, private-sector remodels, and mid-size commercial buildings, with a focus on private commercial construction.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years of commercial painting estimating experience.
  • Strong proficiency in On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and solid understanding of commercial paint scopes.
  • Proven ability to estimate projects ranging from small commercial work to multi-million-dollar jobs.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to speak directly with GCs and clients.
  • Ability to produce complete, accurate takeoffs independently.
  • Leadership-oriented mindset and interest in contributing to a high-performing estimating team.
  • Stable work history and a record of strong performance in commercial paint estimating.

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to train and mentor junior estimators is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed, accurate takeoffs using On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and prepare professional proposals.
  • Review plans, specifications, and project documents; request clarifications from general contractors and project managers as needed.
  • Submit bids, follow up with clients, and communicate effectively throughout the bidding process.
  • Manage multiple estimates at once and maintain organized tracking through internal tools.
  • Collaborate with the owner and team regarding cost structures, production assumptions, and bid strategy.
  • Provide guidance to junior estimators; the ability to train and mentor is a strong plus.
  • Participate in occasional working sessions or demonstrations of estimating capability.
