About The Position

American Cedar & Millwork (ACM), a trusted name in premium building materials for over 40 years, is seeking an experienced Commercial Outside Sales Representative. This role focuses on developing and managing commercial and government business in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia. The representative will showcase ACM’s full range of building products, with a special emphasis on premium windows and doors. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical knowledge, understands commercial and government contracting, can interpret construction documents, and can manage complex opportunities from bidding to project completion. Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of successful outside sales experience in commercial construction, government contracting, building materials, windows and doors, millwork, or a closely related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with commercial and government bidding, procurement, and contracting processes.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, specifications, window and door schedules, and construction documents.
  • Proven experience completing detailed and accurate material takeoffs.
  • Experience measuring, sizing, and specifying windows and doors for commercial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of premium window and door products, applications, and terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new business and successfully manage a commercial sales territory.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, responsive, and capable of managing multiple bids and active projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with internal teams, manufacturers, and customers.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.

  • Existing relationships within the Washington, D.C., Maryland, Baltimore, or Northern Virginia commercial construction markets are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, bid, and manage commercial and government sales opportunities throughout the assigned territory.
  • Work closely with contractors, developers, architects, government agencies, procurement professionals, manufacturers, and ACM’s internal teams.
  • Provide accurate product solutions, competitive proposals, and outstanding service from initial plans through project completion.
  • Develop new commercial and government business throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial contractors, general contractors, developers, architects, government agencies, procurement professionals, builders, and other industry partners.
  • Sell across ACM’s full product portfolio, specializing in premium window and door solutions.
  • Identify upcoming projects and build a strong, sustainable sales pipeline.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, schedules, specifications, and other construction documents.
  • Complete accurate material takeoffs, with particular expertise in window and door sizes, configurations, and specifications.
  • Conduct field measurements and site visits as needed.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, and potential product, installation, or specification concerns before bids and orders are finalized.
  • Manage commercial and government bid opportunities, including invitations to bid, solicitations, requests for proposals, bid packages, addenda, deadlines, and required documentation.
  • Prepare accurate estimates, quotes, proposals, takeoffs, and product presentations.
  • Navigate commercial and government procurement, bidding, contracting, and award processes.
  • Assist with product selections, substitutions, value engineering, submittals, and other project requirements.
  • Coordinate with customers, architects, manufacturers, estimators, operations teams, and other project partners throughout the sales and fulfillment process.
  • Track project changes, revisions, approvals, and other details that may affect pricing, product specifications, or delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer activity, bids, opportunities, awarded projects, and sales forecasts.
  • Represent ACM at industry events, trade shows, networking opportunities, and customer meetings.
  • Stay current on market conditions, competitor activity, building trends, codes, specifications, and premium window and door products.
