About The Position

The Senior Business Analyst serves as the primary analyst supporting Commercial Lines product implementations, system enhancements, and operational process improvements across multiple states and products. This role is responsible for ensuring that business requirements are documented, and every functional/business consideration is identified before implementing each project. The position requires a clear understanding and review/confirmation with the client and internal departments before functional requirements are finalized, suggesting alternative approaches where viable. The Senior Business Analyst is also responsible for ensuring functional requirements are completely documented and understood, along with innovative solutions with best practices identified and explored for most prevalent use cases. This role acts as a consultant to business units and technical teams for detailed data availability, location, lineage, and quality, working within the Development Life Cycle. They ensure delivery according to project timelines, coordinate with stakeholders to define go-live activities, track progress, perform follow-up communication, and document resolutions to maintain project timelines. The analyst analyzes possible impacts to the schedule for requested changes and makes updates as needed to the project timeline within reason. They develop and execute presentations, prepare and document workgroup meetings and presentations, and facilitate meetings (in person and online) and conference calls to orient new clients, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and address concerns. The role works with the project manager to manage the project plan, providing tasks, dates, and resource responsibilities based on the scope of the project, and provides statuses on work in progress and completed tasks. Responsibilities include gathering, documenting, and validating business and system requirements, supporting rate, rule, and form changes in core platforms, and coordinating with underwriting, product teams, and IT. The analyst will analyze production issues and support root-cause analysis, create user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and process documentation, and ensure accurate delivery of regulatory and filing-driven changes. They will support integration with underwriting tools, rating engines, forms libraries, and external data services. The role involves creating functional specifications, collecting, understanding, and transmitting business requirements for projects and translating them into functional specifications, database designs, and detailed test plans. The analyst works with the client to understand requirements and partners with clients to gather all requirements to formulate business process specifications and translate those into application and/or operational functionality, understanding the value proposition(s) of the project and deciding when to advocate and when to compromise to arrive at mutually acceptable solutions. They work with technical staff to translate requirements, assisting the technical team in translating application functionality into application architecture and the production of system functionality documents. The analyst communicates business directives, goals, and needs to the technical team and serves as a client interface for managing user expectations and client satisfaction. They also work with operational business staff to translate requirements, assisting the operations team(s) in updating documentation and processes to accommodate the products offered, and communicating business directives, goals, and needs to the business team, serving as a client interface for managing user expectations and client satisfaction. The role manages the development life cycle, creates and/or updates project documentation, documents objectives, decisions, accomplishments, and deliverables for the work stream, and places documentation on the internal storage mechanism (Confluence) to provide a written account of the project activities. The analyst represents the business and/or project as the subject matter expert in the designated work stream and manages projects and processes as required. They work with the product team to stay abreast of overall product strategy, roadmap(s), and release management processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or a relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of relevant experience as a business analyst in healthcare or health insurance, Medicare, and commercial business lines, or related industry.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and implement projects.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a rapid environment, with the ability to gather requirements, communicate product design requirements, and achieve high-quality results within specified timeframes.
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to apply, necessary software development practices and procedures.
  • Ability to apply the principles of independent logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to comprehend the consequences of various problem situations and refer them for appropriate decision making.
  • Ability to design program logic, prepare test data, and test programs.
  • Ability to review business requirements and compare to application for possible deviations from customer expectations.
  • Excellent triage, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with multi-functional teams to perform complex data analysis, data mapping and support a variety of business intelligence, reporting, analytical and data visualization needs.

  • Experience working with mainstream BI reporting systems, ETL data integration platforms, and data modeling tools.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to demonstrate the operational services.
  • Ability to create data flow diagrams and data models, including use case, activity, and workflow diagrams using VISIO.
  • Ability to convey pertinent information to operational and technical teams.
  • Strong presentation and analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in both a structured and unstructured environment.
  • Ability to support projects using a variety of project management methodologies (bimodal).
