Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to make informed decisions while balancing growth and profitability objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and contribute effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and underwriting systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial lines insurance or underwriting experience preferred.
  • Professional insurance designations such as AU, CPCU, or progress toward designation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, policy language, and coverage forms preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review, evaluate, and underwrite commercial lines new business submissions in accordance with company guidelines and appetite.
  • Analyze risk characteristics, coverage needs, and pricing factors to make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Verify insured operations and exposures to ensure underwriting accuracy.
  • Review Loss Control inspection reports and determine appropriate underwriting actions.
  • Process endorsements, policy modifications, and other servicing requests for existing accounts.
  • Evaluate renewal business to support retention, profitability, and portfolio performance.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions and recommendations clearly and professionally to agency partners.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents through responsive service and collaboration.
  • Work closely with underwriting leadership and team members to address underwriting questions and complex situations.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to expand underwriting knowledge and technical expertise.
  • Maintain compliance with underwriting guidelines, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.
