About The Position

Seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter to join a team. In this role, you will support the Program Manager by underwriting and managing an assigned book of business, contributing to the overall profitability and performance of the portfolio. This position focuses on evaluating complex risks, maintaining strong relationships with producers, and ensuring compliance with program guidelines. This is a non-supervisory, individual contributor role that requires onsite presence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • AU, CPCU, ARM designation or progress toward completion preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
  • Active Property & Casualty license (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, coverage analysis, and pricing.
  • Proven ability to independently manage a book of business and build strong producer relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Independently underwriting new and renewal Property & Casualty business within delegated authority.
  • Evaluating submissions for risk selection, pricing adequacy, and compliance with guidelines.
  • Accepting, declining, or requesting additional information on submissions, and preparing referrals for risks exceeding authority.
  • Reviewing exception renewals and recommending pricing or coverage adjustments.
  • Managing an assigned book of business and fostering strong producer relationships.
  • Monitoring portfolio performance, including rate, claims activity, and risk control.
  • Identifying unusual or emerging exposures and recommending actions to Program Management.
  • Evaluating competitor forms and coverages to support product or program updates.
  • Responding to producer and client inquiries regarding pricing and coverage.
  • Participating in agent meetings, client visits, and industry events as needed.
  • Maintaining underwriting documentation and preparing reports as requested.
  • Supporting training and knowledge-sharing initiatives as a subject matter expert.
  • Performing additional duties or special projects as assigned.
