About The Position

Join Dover Doors & Windows, one of Michigan’s most established door companies, as we expand our commercial technician team in Flint! As a Commercial Garage Door Technician, you’ll be the face of our company—servicing, installing, and maintaining a wide range of commercial and industrial door systems, primarily hollow metal doors, including sectional doors, rolling steel doors, fire doors, dock equipment, and more. You’ll work hands-on in the field, troubleshoot issues on the spot, and leave customers confident in the safety and performance of their door systems.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting commercial hollow metal doors and frames.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and hardware schedules.
  • Experience with commercial door hardware including: Closers, Panic devices, Cylindrical and mortise locks, Electric strikes, Access control hardware, Continuous hinges, Door coordinators and sequencers
  • Experience with frame modifications, door replacements, and field measurements.
  • Ability to safely operate lifts, ladders, and common power tools.
  • Ability to lift 75+ pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of commercial door and hardware experience.
  • Experience with fire-rated openings and code compliance.
  • Experience with automatic pedestrian doors.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience with key systems and master keying.
  • Experience with access control and low-voltage wiring.
  • AAADM Certification (Automatic Door Technician)
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Forklift and Aerial Lift Certification
  • Certified Door Consultant (CDC) or Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) coursework (preferred but not required)
  • Manufacturer certifications from: Assa Abloy, Allegion, Stanley Access Technologies, Horton Automatics, Besam/Entrematic

Responsibilities

  • Install, service, and repair commercial garage door systems and dock equipment
  • Installing, servicing, and troubleshooting commercial hollow metal doors and frames
  • Perform job site inspections to ensure all work meets safety standards and company expectations
  • Maintain detailed job documentation (notes, diagrams, photos)
  • Identify customer needs and recommend repair or upgrade solutions
  • Follow OSHA safety guidelines and company best practices
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and team members
  • Use company software and mobile tools to track jobs and update progress
