About The Position

Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Commercial Estimator to be based out of our Suisun City, CA office and play a key role in pursuing and bidding critical infrastructure projects across Northern California that include architectural and commercial scopes of work. Shimmick’s Northwest Division, headquartered in Suisun City, California, focuses on large public owners in Northern California, across water resources, water treatment, transportation, and transit markets. In addition, this division was awarded the APWA 2019 Public Works Project Award in the environment category for the Alameda Creek Fish Passage project in California.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, + 2 years of relevant estimating experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience estimating commercial construction projects (buildings and related structures / architectural scopes, etc.)
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Heavy Civil structures estimating experience (water/wastewater treatment, rail/transit, bridge structures, etc).
  • Knowledge of project management principles, heavy civil structures construction, and transportation infrastructure design.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Company estimating systems and processes.
  • Acquire basic level of understanding of estimating terminology, measures, concepts and principles for preparing estimates.
  • Recognizes how various processes/project actions and assumptions may impact estimates.
  • Under supervision prepares bid packages, conceptual estimates and analysis of subcontractor bids, etc. for projects.
  • Performs duties with limited complexity, such as material take offs, basic pricing, vendor/subcontractor outreach.
  • Expected to assist in the preparation of larger and more complex estimating assignments
