About The Position

This role involves performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and optimization of HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, split systems, water source heat pumps, rooftop units, computer room air conditioners, and mini-split systems. The technician will be responsible for complex preventative maintenance tasks, system optimization for energy efficiency, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations regarding refrigerant handling. The job requires strong technical skills in diagnosing and repairing various types of equipment, working with low voltage controls, reading wiring diagrams, and communicating effectively with customers and team members. The position also involves administrative tasks such as completing paperwork and responding to emergency calls as part of an on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • EPA License
  • 3 - 5 years of HVAC Commercial Service experience, specifically with commercial chillers and boilers
  • Knowledge of air-cooled and water-cooled centrifugal or screw chillers
  • Lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Climbing heights up to 30 feet
  • Navigating tight, enclosed spaces
  • Working in extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain)
  • Knowledge/experience working with low voltage controls, (thermostats, sensors, smoke detectors, equipment control boards, etc).
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school and/or apprenticeship experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect chillers and ancillary equipment (cooling towers, pumps, air handlers) using testing instruments to evaluate operating parameters.
  • Perform complex preventative maintenance, including tube brushing, refrigerant leak testing, oil analysis, and compressor teardowns/rebuilds.
  • Adjust controls and calibrate Building Automation Systems (BAS) to maximize energy efficiency and reliability.
  • Handle refrigerants strictly in accordance with environmental regulations (requires EPA certification).
  • Safely perform preventative maintenance visits to customers, servicing a variety of HVAC equipment.
  • Perform high-level repairs, replace compressors, bearings, motors, and other skilled repairs in a timely manner.
  • Reclaim/recover refrigerant, check pressures, pull vacuums and add refrigerant.
  • Perform RTU start-up, checking rotation, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair different types and brands of equipment.
  • Work with low voltage controls (thermostats, sensors, smoke detectors, equipment control boards, etc.).
  • Read wiring diagrams.
  • Educate customers effectively regarding repairs, charges, and available products/services.
  • Work closely with the dispatcher and other team members in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Complete invoices, time sheets, and other paperwork as required.
  • Respond to emergency calls as required, on call rotation.
  • Limit call-backs to under 3% of all diagnostic calls run by technician.
