About The Position

Wisconsin Public Service Corp, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Combustion Turbine Technologist at the Pulliam Power Plant located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This position is represented by Local No. 420 IUOE. The Combustion Turbine Technologist ensures efficient and reliable generation of electricity by inspecting, operating and maintaining generators, auxiliary equipment, buildings and grounds. The generators may include combustion turbines and other generation. Performs mechanical, instrument and control and electrical maintenance on all equipment and auxiliary systems associated with these plants. May be assigned to other Wisconsin Public Service generating facility locations on a temporary basis. May be assigned to other related and incidental duties as associated with generation stations.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in the area of Electric Power Technology, Industrial Electrical Maintenance, Electromechanical Technology, Automation Engineering Technology, Utilities Engineering Technology, Instrumentation OR Equivalent Armed Forces training OR Journeyman status as an Instrument Mechanic or Electrical and Instrumentation Technician.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Two (2) years of direct power generation experience consisting of a minimum of one (1) year of dedicated instrumentation and controls experience OR Two (2) years of power generation with the primary duties being the operation and maintenance of combustion turbines and their controls OR Five (5) years electrical and instrument or IC&E technical experience OR Currently at journeyman level in the electrical and instrument or IC&E trade OR Pertinent military experience may be considered.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Must be able to obtain forklift and lift truck certification.
  • Maintenance Selection System (MASS): Ability to understand basic mechanical principles, visualize proper assembled form of objects, read and comprehend technical material; and skill in working basic mathematical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the reliable production of electricity and the safe, efficient operation of Regional Generation generators, auxiliary equipment, buildings and grounds.
  • Maintain equipment in optimal condition to prevent premature failures.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance duties on equipment and systems associated with generators.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance through adherence to operating procedures.
  • Operate generating facilities including DePere Energy Center Combustion Turbines, West Marinette Combustion Turbines, and Pulliam Combustion Turbines.
  • Respond to call-outs.
  • Perform substation switching as required and as directed by Energy Supply and Control.
  • Communicate with Energy Supply and Control to operate generation facilities to meet changing power needs.
  • Operate and maintain control system hardware and software.
  • Escort and assist contractors as required.
  • Attend training and meetings as required including offsite training.
  • Respond to operational problems and take appropriate action based on procedures, training and experience.
  • Initiate work requests.
  • Inform supervisor of current or potential problems.
  • Issue hold, caution and danger cards as required.
  • Maintain compliance with Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans.
  • Maintain compliance with site Quality Control Plans.
  • Maintain plant systems, including keeping equipment and surrounding area in clean, safe and efficient condition.
  • Inspect generator powerhouse and associated equipment, grounds and substations.
  • Lubricate equipment and monitors temperatures, oil levels, and other process data, reporting irregularities to supervision.
  • Troubleshoot medium and low voltage circuit problems.
  • Modify and maintain programmable logic controller (PLC) software.
  • Coordinate and implement system logic changes.
  • Operate and maintain emissions monitoring equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining plant drawings.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining plant procedures.
  • Test and calibrate instruments and controls.
  • Perform janitorial and cleaning duties.
  • Perform general building and grounds maintenance including painting, mowing and snow removal.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance duties on equipment and systems associated with generators.
  • Perform motor replacement, isolate, remove, reinstall.
  • Read and use measuring devices and electrical instruments.
  • Operate and be qualified in fork lift/man lift operation.
  • Operate power equipment such as electric hand tools, air tools and grounds equipment.
  • Be qualified in Confined Space Entry.
  • Be qualified in Fall Arrest protection equipment use.
  • Be rigging and crane qualified.
  • Inspect and repair hoists and cables.
  • Complete substation inspections.
  • Respond to alarms.
  • Complete necessary documents including, but not limited to, maintenance records and reports, operational and maintenance reports and logs, and emission monitoring documentation for CEM/PEM.
