About The Position

The Combo Welder performs pipe and other welding work in New Braunfels, Texas, using TIG and stick welding on carbon and stainless steel. The role requires passing 6G pipe welding tests on carbon steel and stainless steel; test welds are sent to an X-ray lab for nondestructive testing. The welder may also assist fitters and perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor, including shop and yard duties. Quality and safety are essential.

This is a long-term position on the first shift, Monday through Friday, working 10-hour days, with possible overtime on Saturdays. Pay is up to $30 per hour, depending on experience. Per diem and travel pay are not offered.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of previous welding experience.
• Combo welding experience.
• Experience welding TIG and stick on carbon and stainless steel.
• Pass the required 6G pipe welding test.
• Knowledge of welding machine functionality and welding processes, including SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW.
• Knowledge of filler metals and their applications.
• Knowledge of pipe and structural steel characteristics.
• Ability to weld in flat, horizontal, and overhead positions, including elevated or awkward positions.
• Understanding of blueprints and ability to assist fitters.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Forklift and crane operation experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform pipe welding using TIG and stick processes on carbon and stainless steel.
• Use welding machines and processes including SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW.
• Work in flat, horizontal, and overhead positions, including elevated or awkward positions.
• Use cutting torches, plasma cutters, and other mechanical equipment.
• Assist fitters and interpret blueprints as needed.
• Assist with other shop and yard duties, including cleaning and organizing work and staging areas.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
• Follow quality and safety expectations.
