Combo Welder - Memphis

SpaceXSI•Southaven, MS
•Onsite

About The Position

SpaceXSI is seeking an Industrial Welder to support construction of its high-performance data centers. The role involves fitting and welding large industrial piping and structural steel to ASME Section IX requirements. The welder will collaborate with mechanical, structural, electrical, and operations teams on piping, supports, and structures from construction through turnover. This is a full-time, onsite role involving significant travel to SpaceXSI data center sites.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of journey-level industrial construction welding experience with large industrial piping and/or structural steel, completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship, or equivalent military experience.
  • Ability to travel extensively to SpaceXSI data center construction sites and remain onsite during peak construction phases.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments, climb ladders, lift and position moderate loads, stand and walk for a full shift, and wear PPE, including welding PPE, for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on GTAW (TIG) experience on stainless steel and/or SMAW (stick) experience on carbon steel.
  • ASME Section IX qualification, or ability to pass a pre-employment weld test to ASME Section IX in the processes and positions used onsite.
  • Willingness to work at heights and outdoors on a changing data center construction site.
  • Ability to safely use welding machines, torches, grinders, and related hand and power tools.
  • Strong safety mindset and willingness to follow site procedures, including hot-work permits and LOTO.
  • Prior experience on data center, industrial, or heavy-civil construction sites.
  • Experience welding large-bore process, mechanical, or utility piping and heavy structural members.
  • Current ASME Section IX qualification, such as 6G, in GTAW on stainless steel and/or SMAW on carbon steel.
  • Proficiency in both TIG welding on stainless steel and stick welding on carbon steel; FCAW experience is a plus.
  • AWS D1.1 structural welding qualification or equivalent.
  • OSHA 10 or equivalent training.
  • Ability to read isometric, spool, and structural drawings.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Fit, tack, and weld large-bore industrial piping and/or structural steel assemblies according to drawings and ASME Section IX welding procedure specifications.
  • Lay out, cut, bevel, grind, and align joints; check fit-up, root opening, and reinforcement before and after welding.
  • Read isometric, spool, and structural drawings, and follow weld maps, heat numbers, and rod-control or continuity requirements where used.
  • Support the installation of strut, supports, hangers, and structural members; assist with equipment setting and bolt-up as needed to complete weld packages.
  • Stage, move, and inventory pipe, fittings, structural members, filler metal, and tools; maintain orderly laydown yards and work areas.
  • Prepare and close work areas, including protection, fire watch and hot-work permits, debris removal, scrap segregation, and end-of-shift reset.
  • Follow LOTO, PPE, hot-work, and site rules; do not weld on live or unpurged systems without authorization.
  • Promptly report damaged material, rejected welds, unsafe conditions, and drawing conflicts.
  • Support punch-list, repair, and NDE hold-point work through system turnover.
