About The Position
The Combo Pipe Welder Journeyman plans, lays out, welds, installs, tests, and repairs pipe and similar tubular products according to applicable plans, specifications, welding codes, and industry standards. The role performs precision pipe fitting and welding independently, coordinates with field labor crews, and supports prefabrication and installation activities. The position also includes inspecting subordinate work, identifying deficiencies, and taking corrective action to meet contract plans and specifications.
Requirements
- May require a high school diploma or equivalent and previous experience in the field or a related area.
- Strong working knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management and supervision.
- Proficiency in the safe and efficient use of electrical tools, hand tools, power tools, layout tools, and measurement tools.
- Ability to meet all physical requirements.
- Must have all required tools.
- Ability to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces, which may exceed 200 feet.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by workload.
Responsibilities
- Plan, diagram, and lay out pipe welder work.
- Coordinate with field labor crews to support efficient installations.
- Set up welding equipment, fit piping, and independently perform precise welds.
- Lay out and assemble pipes to production, quality, safety, code, design, and specification requirements.
- Repair welds and substandard work.
- Assist with prefabrication layout and installation coordination.
- Assist with rigging materials.
- Operate air arc gougers, grinders, stress-relieving machines, and other industry machines, tools, and equipment.
- Estimate sizes, distances, quantities, time, costs, resources, or materials needed for work activities.
- Inspect subordinate work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, identify deficiencies, explain them, and take necessary corrective action.
- Observe and comply with safety and project rules; perform other duties as required.
