About The Position

Tryfacta is seeking a Combination Building Inspector III for our client in Santa Monica, 90404. This is a temporary contract assignment. The role involves conducting inspections of building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work to ensure compliance with construction codes, local ordinances, and state laws. The inspector will also provide guidance on code requirements, review construction drawings, monitor active construction projects, and assist with enforcement actions. This position requires the use of a personal computer and applicable software applications, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. The role is a temporary contract assignment with a duration of 4 months.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
Four years of recent, paid work experience performing standard building inspections.
Special inspection experience may substitute for two of the required four years of standard inspection experience.
Possession of a valid Class C driver license.
Certification by the International Code Council as a Commercial Building, Commercial Electrical, Commercial Plumbing and Commercial Mechanical Inspector.
Using a personal computer and applicable software applications.
Working effectively with persons from diverse social, cultural and economic backgrounds.
Candidate has not and has never been a CalPERS member (mandatory requirement).

Responsibilities

Conducts inspections of building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work to ensure compliance with construction codes, local ordinances, and state laws, and approves work once corrections are completed.
Provides guidance to the public and City staff on code requirements, application procedures, inspections, and required documentation.
Reviews construction drawings (architectural, structural, electrical, etc.) to verify compliance prior to permit issuance.
Meets with permit applicants to clarify review comments, explain requirements, and confirm corrections have been addressed.
Monitors active construction projects to ensure compliance and prevent permit expiration prior to final approval.
Ensures quality assurance processes, including special inspections and structural observations, are completed and properly documented.
Collects and analyzes data to prepare reports, studies, and recommendations.
Investigates and resolves complaints, coordinating with other departments and agencies as necessary.
Maintains accurate and organized records, issues permits, updates tracking systems, and prepares correspondence and reports.
Assists with enforcement actions, including preparing non-compliance cases for prosecution and testifying in court when required.
