About The Position

The Color Matcher ensures raw materials—including colorants, additives, and resins—meet the requirements of Silgan Slatersville, LLC and its customers. The role formulates and matches customer color targets for Sales, approves or adjusts color concentrates before submission to molding, and manufactures production and customer color chips using plastic injection molding methods. It also provides technical support to Sales and Engineering regarding materials, additives, and colorants, and works with Product Stewardship to support compliance with packaging regulations, including FDA requirements.

The position inspects and tests incoming raw materials, manages colorant quality control, schedules raw-material deliveries, and performs inventory and production transactions and material handling in the Color facility. It maintains records of sample and color laboratory activity and assists with color production operations such as extruding and unitizing. The Color Matcher also meets with vendors and corporate sourcing to address pricing, new products, and material problems while supporting budgetary and corporate objectives. Prior experience in color manufacturing and forklift operator certification are required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure colorants, additives, resins, and other raw materials meet internal and customer requirements.
• Perform inventory and production transactions and handle materials throughout the Color facility.
• Formulate and color-match customer targets for the Sales department.
• Approve or adjust color concentrates before submission to molding, ensuring additive proportions and resin compliance with company standards.
• Manufacture production and customer color chips using plastic injection molding methods.
• Provide Sales and Engineering with technical support concerning materials, additives, and colorants.
• Work with Product Stewardship to help ensure ingredients comply with packaging regulations, including FDA requirements and applicable specifications.
• Inspect, test, and verify incoming raw materials.
• Schedule raw-material deliveries and maintain quality control of colorants.
• Maintain records of sample and color laboratory activity, including extrusion, henscheling, dye weighing, colorant formulas, grinding, unit submissions, and color checks.
• Meet with vendors and the corporate sourcing group regarding pricing, new products, and material-related problems requiring solutions.
• Support budgetary and corporate objectives.
• Assist with color production operations, including extruding and unitizing.
• Perform other job-related duties as requested by the supervisor.
