About The Position

The Collision Painter is responsible for operating and using all body shop equipment appropriately and safely. This role involves reviewing the production schedule daily, masking and protecting parts, block sanding repaired panels, mixing and applying refinish coatings, and maintaining the paint booth and equipment. The painter will inspect painted units for quality, remove overspray, repair paint defects, and maintain tools and the work area. Safety is paramount, requiring the use of personal protective equipment and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations regarding hazardous materials and body shop operations. Cooperation with other personnel and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations are also key aspects of this position. Other tasks may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • 2-5+ years of collision repair experience
  • Ability to correctly complete all steps in the refinishing process
  • Above-average quality focus
  • High production capabilities
  • Experience in spraying waterborne paints is a must

Nice To Haves

  • I-CAR or ASE Certifications are a bonus

Responsibilities

  • Operates and uses all body shop equipment appropriately and safely.
  • Reviews production schedule with Manager daily.
  • Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated.
  • Block sanding repaired panels and inspect prior to painting.
  • Mixes refinish coatings according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce the desired color.
  • Refinish surfaces using spray equipment.
  • Maintains Paint Booth and equipment.
  • Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags, and unpainted areas.
  • Removes overspray, repair paint defects and buffing as required.
  • Maintains tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair.
  • Keeps the work area clean.
  • Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including a respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
  • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials.
  • Reports any deviations to management.
  • Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.
  • Understands and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
