About The Position

The College Relations Assistant reports directly to the Marketing Event Coordinator and works closely with the College Relations team to support the planning, coordination, and execution of College events, outreach activities, and community engagement initiatives, including mascot appearances. This position supports the College’s strategic marketing and communications efforts by promoting brand awareness, advancing the educational mission of the College, and fostering meaningful engagement with multicultural communities, students, and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of effective engagement strategies for working with audiences, communities, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, including experience using tools such as Canva, Facebook, Instagram, and X to support branding, outreach, and audience engagement.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications, including Google Sheets, Docs, and Drive, for communication, collaboration, organization, and document management.
  • Ability to maintain an established work schedule and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to support events and outreach activities across multiple campus and community locations.
  • Ability to coordinate schedules, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with College departments, community partners, students, families, and multicultural populations.
  • Ability to represent the College in a professional, welcoming, and inclusive manner at campus and community events while supporting the College’s mission, values, and commitment to belonging.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences through presentations, outreach activities, and public engagement efforts, including presentations to K–12 student groups.
  • Ability to assess situations, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately in fast-paced or changing environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service and fostering positive constituent experiences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related records, information, and materials.
  • Effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to use standard office software, collaboration platforms, and social media tools to support outreach, communication, and event coordination activities.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation needed for local Austin area travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting outreach initiatives, events, marketing activities, or logistics coordination preferred.
  • Previous mascot or mascot team experience preferred.
  • Associate degree or higher, or progress toward completion.
  • Potential ability to wear the mascot costume for photo opportunities or brief engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the planning, promotion, and execution of college relations events and initiatives, including mascot appearances.
  • Assists with event logistics, including scheduling, setup/breakdown, transportation of materials, vendor coordination, and on-site support.
  • Supports research and identification of College and community events that can enhance the College’s internal and external engagement.
  • Helps maintain mascot materials, including costumes, props, and merch or swag.
  • Assists in the maintenance and organization of departmental inventory and promotional materials, including fulfillment and distribution.
  • Assists in compiling and organizing data for departmental reports and performance tracking.
  • Serves as a representative of the College Relations & Marketing team at events, outreach opportunities, and community engagements.
  • Assists in capturing event content, photos, and audience engagement highlights for marketing and social media use.
  • Helps track event participation, outreach activities, and engagement metrics to support reporting and continuous improvement.
