About The Position

This is a part-time position (maximum of 20 hours per week) for Student Outreach Assistants within the College of Forestry at Oregon State University (OSU). College of Forestry Ambassadors act as student representatives for the College, engaging in events and programs that support recruitment, marketing, student services, and alumni, donor, and industry relations. Responsibilities include assisting with on- and off-campus functions, participating in professional conferences, attending alumni and industry events, and delivering forestry presentations and campus tours. Ambassadors also serve as liaisons for current students, offering support, fostering student engagement, and communicating student needs. These positions offer valuable work experience and professional development opportunities, enhancing communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Ambassadors gain recognition as respected student leaders and network with influential university administrators, faculty, industry leaders, and political figures. Incumbents contribute to the mission of OSU/COF and increase their knowledge of the university, the College of Forestry, and the forestry, natural resources, outdoor recreation, and renewable materials industries.

Requirements

• Enrollment as a student at OSU in the College of Forestry at the Corvallis campus.
• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard: High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program. Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term. Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term. Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term. Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
• Current undergraduate or post-baccalaureate student with a major in the College of Forestry (this includes Forestry, Natural Resources, Wood Innovation for Sustainability, Forest Engineering, Forest Engineering-Civil Engineering, and Tourism, Recreation & Adventure Leadership).
• Must have completed a minimum of one (1) full term at OSU.
• This position may require successful completion of the OSU Motor Pool Driver Authorization Form and Van Safety Training.
• This position will require successful completion of the Office of Youth Safety & Compliance Youth Safety Training.
• Flexibility in work schedule is required, as occasional evening and weekend work is required.
• This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
• This position may require driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; if so, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per OSU Standard 576-056-0000 et seq.
• Must successfully complete a Criminal History Check.
• Must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check (if driving).
• Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence (if driving).
• Must be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standards.
• Must self-report convictions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as student representatives for the College of Forestry (COF) at Oregon State University (OSU).
• Represent the College at events and programs supporting College recruitment & marketing, student services, and alumni, donor and industry relations.
• Assist with on- and off- campus functions.
• Participate in professional conferences.
• Attend alumni and industry events.
• Give forestry presentations and campus tours.
• Act as liaisons for current students, offering support, student engagement, and communicating student needs.
• Participate in on- and off- campus recruitment activities and events.
• Outreach to current students in the COF, including assisting with classroom presentations, referrals to appropriate COF/OSU staff or resources, hosting drop-in office hours, and specific outreach for their major.
• Conduct outreach and education programs on behalf of the COF, such as leading building tours and Natural Sciences Sessions, or facilitating group activities.
• Provide supplemental student support for career and academic success, such as resume and cover letter review, utilizing Career Development Center tools, strategies for time management, note taking, and test preparation.
• Assist with programs for new and current COF students, such as Annual Ring, recognition events, professional and career development workshops.
• Engage in professional development, skill, and educational training and activities, especially those relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Maintain communication with the Admissions Coordinator, including monitoring and responding to Ambassador-related email.
• Participate in mentorship programs for various populations of new and current COF students.
• Communicate with prospective students and their families, representing OSU and COF.
• Greet FERN Center visitors, answer questions, and provide directions or information.
• Check FERN Center computer lab printers daily for printer paper.
• Keep inventory of FERN Center supplies and submit orders to Student Services.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderly appearance of FERN Center and student computer lab.
• Assist with events scheduled in the FERN Center space, including setting up and taking down signage, tables, etc.
• Accept, process, and retrieve course reserves (textbooks, readings and supplies) for CoF classes.
• Maintain inventory system and manage check out processes for course reserves and student materials.
