The Ohio Department of Veterans Services (DVS) conducts outreach to veterans, provides training and oversight to 88 County Veterans Service Offices, and coordinates programs and operations with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide benefits to Ohio veterans. DVS also works with the Ohio General Assembly and Congressional representatives to craft legislation supporting veterans and their families at state and federal levels. They communicate and coordinate with other state agencies regarding veterans’ programs and support. The department operates the Ohio Veterans Homes in Sandusky and Georgetown, open to Ohio-resident veterans who served in periods of armed conflicts, and manages the federal education-related program, The State Approving Agency. DVS hosts several veterans’ ceremonies each year, including the Governor’s Wreath-Laying Ceremony and the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and maintains custodianship of over 1.9 million veterans’ records dating back to World War II. This position assists and advises the Communications Director and DVS leadership with public engagements and statewide outreach events, and supports constituent services.
