About The Position

Texas Sports Academy is a rapidly expanding micro-school that combines rigorous academics with elite athletic development. We are seeking a College Advisor to manage the college pathway for our high school student-athletes, guiding them from initial discussions about target schools through to signed acceptance letters.

Requirements

  • At least one full cohort of students guided through the college application process from junior year through enrollment.
  • Proficiency with NCAA Eligibility Center requirements, including core courses, sliding scale, and amateurism rules.
  • Experience registering students with the NCAA Eligibility Center and achieving final certification.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, utilizing spreadsheets, calendars, and trackers to manage deadlines.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, capable of coaching essays without rewriting them in your own voice.
  • Excellent parent communication skills, including the ability to deliver difficult news constructively.
  • Personal experience as a college or competitive athlete, or as a coach, understanding the student-athlete experience.
  • Understanding of the demands on student-athletes (e.g., 3+ hours of training daily) and how athletics shape college decisions.
  • Comfort and proficiency in using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) for daily workflow.

Nice To Haves

  • Former college coach or recruiter with experience evaluating recruits.
  • Experience advising in an independent school or athletic academy setting with non-traditional transcripts.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial aid, including merit aid, need-based aid, athletic scholarship stacking, and outside scholarships.
  • Experience running or teaching SAT/ACT test preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a personalized college plan for each high school student, mapping target, reach, and likely schools based on academics, sport, and family fit, and updating it each semester.
  • Monitor each student's NCAA Eligibility Center status, auditing core course requirements, GPA, test score timing, amateurism certification, and registration deadlines.
  • Assist students with personal statements, supplemental essays, and athletic resumes, helping them articulate their unique stories.
  • Coordinate with coaches on athletic recruiting timelines and educate families on different collegiate athletic pathways (D1, D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO).
  • Translate scholarship offers and letters of intent into clear language for parents.
  • Conduct structured quarterly meetings with student-athletes and their parents to review progress, upcoming tasks, and necessary actions, providing recap notes.
  • Develop a testing plan for SAT/ACT, including registration, preparation resources, and retake strategies.
  • Coordinate official and unofficial campus visits and prepare students for interactions with coaches and admissions officers.
  • Utilize AI tools for daily tasks such as drafting emails, summarizing records, preparing meeting briefs, and tracking deadlines.
