About The Position

Ivy Tech-Bloomington is looking for an individual to join their team as a College and Career Coach. In this role, the successful candidate will support high school students in exploring career pathways, developing postsecondary plans, and pursuing opportunities such as technical certifications, dual credit, dual enrollment, and degree programs. This position works closely with students, families, high school partners, and Ivy Tech staff to provide career guidance, facilitate college and career planning, and strengthen connections between secondary and postsecondary education. The role also serves as an Ivy Tech representative in local high schools and helps students navigate admissions, enrollment, and pathway completion. GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION: The College and Career Coach will work to improve the number of students pursuing a strong post-secondary pathway, which could include technical certifications, associate degrees and other post-secondary degrees including career and technical education (CTE). The position will plan and implement outreach services in conjunction with industry representatives, school corporations, and post-secondary institutions. This work is aimed at helping students define their career aspirations and to recognize technical and community college programs that can help them achieve their educational and career goals.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in related field required.
  • Ability to travel between high schools and Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills required.
  • Must have the ability to: work with diverse populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in advising, carer counseling, recruiting, teaching or student services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regular career counseling for high school students to help them discover fulfilling, successful careers.
  • Work with students individually to complete a Career Interest Inventory, and post-secondary education plan all designed to meet career/employability goals.
  • Prepare and share information on career exploration and job market statistics to facilitate students’ postsecondary planning.
  • Develop a strategic plan to guide them through their high school and college years and achieve their career goals.
  • Provide support for students pursuing dual credit and dual enrollment programming. This may include assisting and advising them about the process of enrollment and registration as part of pathway completion. This may include helping students through Dual Enroll, assessment, and transfer credit discussions.
  • Serve as liaison for dual credit matters by communicating regularly with high school staff, students, and parents.
  • Communicate in writing and through regularly scheduled meetings with Ivy Tech staff and high school/career center administration.
  • Serve as an Ivy Tech Community College representative in high schools.
  • Plan campus visits for their schools.
  • Meet with students on campus for admissions and dual enrollment appointments.
  • Position will spend several months post initial hire on the Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington campus to receive comprehensive training around the College and Career Coach role.
  • Additionally, the position will work on the Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington campus when the high schools are closed for summer break, winter break, etc.
  • Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned.
  • All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
