About The Position

The Community Response Unit (CRU), part of the Sidewalk Program, is responsible for addressing inquiries and complaints related to defective sidewalk, curb, and pedestrian ramps across New York City’s five boroughs. With oversight of approximately 12,750 miles of sidewalk, the unit plays a critical role in enhancing pedestrian safety and reducing injuries caused by hazardous conditions. The College Aide position offers an opportunity to support the Sidewalk Program’s Community Response unit through administrative support, research, outreach, and creative project work in a collaborative environment. The College Aide will collaborate with staff members and other units to support daily operations and project goals in a team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school.
  • Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
  • For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
  • For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

Responsibilities

  • Researching, reviewing, and closing cases via 311 Dynamics and correspondence through the Agency Response Tracking (ART) system.
  • Performing general administrative and clerical tasks assigned by Community Response Unit supervisors.
  • Maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring accuracy and efficiency within the unit.
  • Assisting with and participating in community outreach initiatives, including events such as Summer Streets, Open Streets, and other NYC DOT programs (during summer months).
