About The Position

We are seeking a narrative architect to help students craft compelling college admissions essays. This high-volume, high-impact role involves reviewing essays, identifying areas for improvement in storytelling and voice, and providing personalized feedback through Loom videos. The goal is to help students move beyond clichés and robotic writing to create essays that capture the attention of admissions officers. This position is ideal for a writer passionate about storytelling and making a tangible impact on a student's future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (preferred: English, Writing, Communications, Education, Humanities).
  • 2+ Years of Admissions Editing experience, familiar with UC PIQ and Common App essay prompts.
  • Expertise in storytelling, including narrative arcs, 'show, don't tell', and voice.
  • Comfortable recording 20+ short videos daily, projecting supportive energy on camera.
  • Ability to edit a 650-word essay in 20 minutes while maintaining quality.
  • Proficiency in Google Docs (Suggesting Mode), Zoom, and Loom.
  • Availability to work a Monday-Friday 12:00pm-8:00pm PST schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Identify structural gaps, clichés, and weak reflections in Common App Personal Statements and University of California PIQs.
  • Push students to explore deeper themes and develop their authentic voice.
  • Record personalized ~2-minute Loom videos for each essay edit, explaining feedback with empathy and authority.
  • Manage a dynamic queue of 27–32 essays per day during peak season, making decisions on 'Submission Readiness'.
  • Facilitate weekly Zoom workshops and 1:1 sessions during 6-Week Intensives, guiding students through brainstorming and drafting.
