About The Position

The Collections Specialist I collects delinquent payments and provides member service regarding collection issues. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence 2–3 days per week in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in collections, account recovery, delinquency management, consumer lending, or negotiating payment arrangements.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of an organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including business writing ability.
• Excellent time management skills and comfort working with deadlines.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in customer service, account servicing, financial services, call center operations, banking, or credit union environments.
• Experience with skip tracing, loss mitigation, payment arrangements, and other account recovery activities, including resolving delinquent debt, negotiating payment solutions, handling difficult conversations, and maintaining professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Make outbound calls to delinquent members and service inbound calls.
• Accurately document member interactions, payment arrangements, and action plans in the core collection platform.
• Perform skip traces for members the Credit Union has been unable to reach by reviewing loan documentation, using skip-trace platforms, and referencing prior collection notes.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
