About The Position

The CMS Assistant is a part-time, library clerical position that reports to the AUL for Collections & Metadata Services. The primary functions of this position are adding data to the library’s online system (Sierra), processing and repairing materials, and completing other projects as assigned. The work requires attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer skills including MS Windows, & MS Office.
  • The ability to enter data accurately and resolve discrepancies according to established procedures, to prioritize workload and complete tasks in a timely manner, to assume new tasks, and to work as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, staff, and student workers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the mission of the University and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University. Nice To Haves

  • Previous library experience, especially in Cataloging or Technical Services is desirable
  • Familiarity with ILS (Sierra), MARC records, and Library of Congress Classification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Creates item record and labels for materials added to the library’s online system.
  • Processes new materials; stamps books, prints spine labels; adds security stripes, barcodes, and gift plates.
  • Repairs damaged books, laminates paperbacks, uses the CoLibri cover machine and makes phase boxes for special collection books.
  • Performs quality control on new and repaired materials before they leave the department.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
