About The Position

The NSF | NCAR Collections and Engagement Librarian is responsible for managing and developing the Library’s collections of print materials, electronic books and journals, article databases, and other information resources. They lead acquisition, cataloging, assessment, and promotion of print and electronic resources. The Collections and Engagement Librarian also coordinates communication and engagement efforts for the Library, with a focus on internal outreach. This position helps support Library and Archives operations, sharing responsibility for customer support, circulation, interlibrary loan and resource access.

Requirements

  • Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution and two years of relevant library experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of standards and best practices for managing workflows and processes associated with the acquisition, management and assessment of physical and/or electronic resources.
  • Experience coordinating access to electronic resources for local and remote users and troubleshooting access issues.
  • Experience working with library cataloging and classification standards, such as MARC and LOC. Interest in original cataloging.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Adept at work requiring repetitive, detail-oriented transactions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with current library technologies. Able to work effectively with integrated library systems, digital collections, and OpenURL Link Resolvers.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate with the work of others.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform moderate lifting, carrying, and maneuvering associated with job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with EZProxy, 360link, Koha and VuFind.
  • Interest in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning and application of these technologies for libraries and archives

Responsibilities

  • Perform collection development, assessment, and maintenance activities across all Library facilities, including acquisitions and de-selection.
  • Catalog books and other new acquisitions.
  • Coordinate acquisitions process, including book purchases and donations.
  • Create reports and provide input on the access, maintenance, and usage of information resources, including books, e-journals and e-books.
  • Coordinate implementation of communication plans for the Library and Archives.
  • Create engagement and promotional materials to improve internal awareness of Library and Archives services and resources.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with communication professionals and outreach specialists at NSF NCAR and UCAR.
  • Collaborate with team members to accomplish goals relative to collections, electronic resources access, and discovery.
  • Work directly with patrons in the areas of circulation, reference/research support and resource access, and e-resource troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate interlibrary loan (ILL) and document delivery services to staff.
  • Help maintain the systems used for managing and assessing e-resources (including OpenURL Link Resolver, Koha and EZProxy Analytics).
  • Collaborate on improvements to the search and discovery interface (VuFind).
  • Work on other projects as needed.
  • Provide as-needed backup for Archives reference desk.
