About The Position

This position is within the Line Maintenance Division of the Utilities Department. Employees perform specialized work involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems. The skills and knowledge required can be acquired on the job. The worker is part of a crew, requiring cooperative effort and adherence to safety regulations. Occasional public contact may occur with a supervisor present. Essential functions include performing routine maintenance and servicing operations for the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair of water lines, meters, valves, fire hydrants, sewer lines, pumps, manholes, and other system components.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and willingness to follow safe working procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to follow safe driving procedures and practices.
  • Ability and willingness to learn to operate job-related machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work under close supervision.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate with the public using tact and diplomacy.
  • Possession of a valid driver License (Operator).
  • Must possess or obtain an Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Distribution/Collection Technician Class D Certificate within six (6) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker Endorsement within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of routine maintenance and servicing operations for the City’s water distribution system and wastewater collection systems.
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing activities on water lines, water meters, water valves, fire hydrants, sewer lines, pumps, manholes, and other system components.
  • Following safety regulations and procedures specific to each work environment and assigned tasks.
  • Occasional contact with the public to answer questions specific to the crew's function with the supervisor present to respond to unusual situations.
  • Completing assigned tasks upon receipt of oral and written instructions from the immediate supervisor.
