Requirements

  • Knowledgeable in Rigging, and lifting heavy equipment
  • Ability to align pumps, fans, and motors
  • Pipe fitting skills of all sizing. Blk. pipe, PVC piping and SS tubing
  • Ability to replace bearings and seals on pumps and motor
  • LOTO (Lock Out/Tag Out) experience
  • Knowledge and skills to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair all central plant equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge and skills to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair all campus building mechanical equipment and systems
  • Knowledge of gas turbine engines and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of commonly accepted industry operation/maintenance practices
  • Ability to use PC or computer system to access and manipulate data and control equipment and processes.
  • Ability to manage programs and maintain files, records, and logs
  • Must be able to see and read well enough to understand written work instructions, technical manuals, blueprints, computer screens, printouts, etc
  • Must have oral and written communication skills adequate to convey instructions, directions and information to co-workers, managers, customers, and contractors
  • Must be able to adjust priorities to accomplish objectives in a changing work environment.
  • Must be familiar with and comply with specific and detailed safety procedures, such as biosafety and confined entry requirements, radiation safety and biosafety protocols, asbestos removal procedures, specifics of Material Safety Data Sheets, etc
  • Must be able to appropriately wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, goggles, face shields, gowns, gloves and protective safety equipment such as safety glasses and safety shoes.
  • A valid unlimited Steam Operating Engineering License, within 6 months of hire issued by the City of Los Angeles
  • Possession of a Turbine Endorsement on the valid unlimited Steam Operating Engineer License
  • Possession of E.P.A. Certified Universal Technician Licenses
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and participate in the DMV Pull program.
  • Experience: Maintain, operate, repair, overhaul, replace. (Vac. Pumps, air comp., air dryers, various water system skids)
  • Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

Responsibilities

  • Operation, maintenance, and cleaning of the combustion turbine generator; steam turbine generator; heat recovery system; AQMD emissions reduction systems; gas compressor; related electrical equipment and systems; high pressure, multi-fuel and HTHW boilers; both steam and electric chillers; cooling tower; air compressors; water softeners; high temperature hot water generators; air dryer systems; vacuum systems; emergency generators; all auxiliary equipment and any other equipment under the jurisdiction of the Central Plant.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment operation and maintenance on log sheets and logbooks.
  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials used for equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Provide emergency services, excellent customer communications and services to the campus community.
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of a preventive and corrective maintenance program to insure reliable operation of the central plant and an accurate maintenance history of all plant and building equipment.
  • Perform operational, maintenance and other duties as assigned, associated with the central plant.
