About The Position
The Barista works in Hy-Vee’s store coffee shop, providing friendly customer service, preparing and replenishing products, and keeping the department clean, stocked, and organized. The role involves taking orders in person and by phone, answering questions, processing payments where applicable, and helping customers have a positive experience. No prior experience is required; training and support are provided. The position operates in a busy coffee shop environment with pressure to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. The employee follows company policies, dress code, and hygiene standards and may assist in other store areas or special projects. Employment is contingent on successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
- Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding service.
- Take orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products throughout the shift.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance and follow or develop production lists to meet daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
- Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
