About The Position

As our Coding Auditor & Educator, you will utilize advanced ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 coding systems to support the facility and Coding Service Center, answer coding questions, and promote standardized, compliant coding practices. Every day you will onboard and train new staff, perform coding audits, develop and deploy coding education, monitor and communicate regulatory coding/billing changes, and participate in strategic planning. You will work closely with the Coding Service Center leadership team to perform internal audits and deliver follow-up education across the system. To be successful in this role, you will possess expert-level coding proficiency, strong analytical skills for auditing, exceptional educational and communication abilities, and a proven capacity to standardize practices, ensure compliance, and strategically contribute to coding and regulatory billing. This role is open to remote candidates in approved states.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCSP RCC) or AAPC credential (COC, CIC, CPC, CPCH)
  • Five (5) years coding experience in an acute care setting coding all types of hospital visits/admits with a high degree of skill in inpatient and outpatient expertise
  • Two (2) years experience in internal auditing and/or coding education
  • Epic and 3M 360 experience
  • Must demonstrate competency of inpatient and outpatient coding and guidelines

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree
  • Multihealthcare setting experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides written, detailed rationale and supporting evidence for recommendations on audit findings.
  • Delivers educational feedback to coding staff regarding audit findings in the form of emails, development of PowerPoint presentations, and education sessions with the coding staff.
  • Provides guidance to coding staff and management in identifying and resolving coding issues and answering coding questions.
  • Identifies documentation improvement opportunities that impact coding accuracy.
  • Responsible for performing internal audits and followup education, monitoring trends throughout the system.
  • Performs prebilling reviews of specific types of cases deemed difficult to code and prone to error, performs coding audits, and trains new coding staff, monitoring performance and providing feedback, as needed.
