About The Position
Provides accurate and timely assignment of appropriate ICD-10 diagnostic and PCS procedural codes on medical records to collect and index quality health information for inpatient hospital encounters. This role reviews inpatient records, assigns codes, abstracts relevant data into the network system, and monitors assigned work queues and missing-documentation encounters. The posting offers flexible remote work and a $7,500 sign-on bonus for experienced inpatient coders.
Requirements
- Three years of experience in a hospital inpatient setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one of the following certifications: Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC).
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, coding guidelines, and computers.
- Detail orientation and problem-solving skills related to coding.
Responsibilities
- Review medical records, identify diagnoses and procedures, and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for inpatient accounts.
- Abstract diagnostic and PCS procedural codes and other pertinent data into the network system according to policy and procedures.
- Review and monitor assigned work queues and missing-documentation encounters, and code and abstract accounts that were missed.
- Provide information on specific problem accounts to the Coding Supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
