About The Position

The Coder uses ICD-10-CM standards to code and abstract medical records for reimbursement purposes. The position is with Rehabilitation Hospital of the Northwest in Post Falls, Idaho, an inpatient rehabilitation hospital serving patients throughout northern Idaho and the Inland Northwest. The hospital provides specialized rehabilitation for conditions including stroke, amputation, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, and complex orthopedic injuries. The Coder integrates the hospital’s mission and Guiding Principles into daily practice.

Requirements

• Two years of medical coding experience in ICD-9/ICD-10 is preferred.
• Medical Coding Certification is preferred.
• Current knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding principles, government regulations, protocols, and third-party payer requirements regarding coding and billing.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• General computer skills, including data entry, word processing, email, and record management.
• Effective organizational and time-management skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
• Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
• Ability to work closely and professionally with others.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of medical coding experience in ICD-9/ICD-10.
• Medical Coding Certification.
• Knowledge of government prospective payment system guidelines.
