About The Position

Experienced outpatient infusion and injection coder that understands the hierarchy of infusions/injections, start time and stop times and modifiers. Experience with Epic and 3M 360 required. Schedule can be flexible within reason but needs to be available for a few hours during client's normal business hours for training. This is a short-term project for a cleanup project, exact duration TBD but could be just a couple weeks maybe longer.

  • Maintain 95% accuracy in all coding

  • Experience in oncology or specialty infusion centers is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Coding & Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of CPT, HCPCS Level II, and ICD-10-CM coding systems. Advanced understanding of infusion, injection, hydration, and chemotherapy administration coding guidelines. Proficiency in applying AMA CPT guidelines and hierarchy rules for: Initial, sequential, and concurrent infusions, Push vs. infusion distinctions, Hydration coding criteria. Experience with drug administration coding including biologics, chemotherapy, and therapeutic/diagnostic injections. Accurate assignment of modifiers (e.g., -25, -59, -76, -77) as appropriate. Familiarity with National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs).
  • Outpatient / Facility Coding Knowledge: Experience with hospital outpatient (OPPS) coding and reimbursement methodologies. Understanding of revenue codes, charge capture, and UB-04 billing requirements. Familiarity with CDM (Charge Description Master) structure and maintenance. Ability to review and interpret nursing documentation, MAR (Medication Administration Record), and physician orders.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of CMS outpatient coding guidelines, OIG compliance standards, Local and National Coverage Determinations (LCDs/NCDs). Ensures coding accuracy aligned with documentation and medical necessity requirements. Identifies and escalates compliance risks, undercoding, and overcoding issues.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex infusion scenarios and determine correct coding hierarchy. Strong attention to detail with focus on accuracy and audit readiness. Capable of identifying documentation gaps and querying appropriately. Skilled in performing coding edits resolution and denial analysis.
