About The Position

Performs coding, DRG and abstracting functions for medical records for quality assessment and billing purposes. Codes Huntsville Hospital medical records using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes, abstracts key data elements according to medical record review criteria, and performs coding quality assurance as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize, and change tasks frequently and quickly.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to use a computer, word processing and spreadsheet software, a fax machine, and a copy machine.

Nice To Haves

• Post-high-school education in anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
• ICD-10-CM/PCS or CPT coding experience in a hospital or physician’s office.
