About The Position

This position provides entry-level support in enforcing municipal codes and ordinances related to zoning, property maintenance, and public nuisance abatement. Work is performed under close supervision and involves routine field inspections, complaint follow-up, and public education. This role assists senior staff and provides technical support to the Planning and Development Department.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of municipal codes and ordinances, with willingness to learn.
• Ability to conduct site inspections and record observations accurately.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently on routine tasks and seek guidance when needed.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with residents, coworkers, and the general public.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to remain professional in stressful or confrontational situations.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior work experience in code enforcement, zoning, or building inspection, law enforcement, or related field.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Level I certification within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conducts routine inspections of properties to identify potential violations.
• Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints; documents and reports findings.
• Assists senior staff with investigations, case preparation, and follow-up.
• Issues courtesy notices and warning letters under supervision; refers more complex violations to higher-level staff.
• Educates the public on municipal codes and compliance requirements.
• Maintains accurate records and case files in department systems.
• Provides general assistance to Planning and Development staff as needed.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
