Works under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor in Code Enforcement Service Center, Public Works Division. Inspects the exterior and interior of vacant and occupied existing residential structures (single and multi-family) units, grounds, and abandoned and disabled automobiles for compliance with codes and regulations in the City. Inspects housing components such as structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and other installations to determine maintenance requirements, housing violations, or hazardous conditions. Investigates complaints on code violations and re-inspects property for compliance. Prepares various reports utilizing different software packages by operating the computer and/or hand-held devices. Issues violation orders/notices, environmental and civil citations using various computerized methods to responsible party including property owners, landlords or tenants for specific housing, building, sanitation, health or fire prevention violations based on relevant housing codes. Maintains and keeps inspection and various reports including photographs, notes of conversations, videos, correspondence, field reviews, and other related information into a computerized system. Performs research to determine property ownership. Provides information to the public regarding the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC). Prepares case records and materials for attorneys to use in court hearings. Testifies at hearings or in court in behalf of City. Interprets code requirements and recommends compliance procedures.
