About The Position

The Cocktail & Beverage Server is responsible for providing attentive, knowledgeable, and engaging beverage service while creating a welcoming and elevated guest experience. This position focuses primarily on cocktail, wine, beer, and other beverage service, including confidently describing offerings, making thoughtful recommendations, accurately taking and delivering orders, and anticipating guest needs. The Cocktail Server is expected to demonstrate strong knowledge of the beverage program, responsible alcohol service practices, and PlumpJack service standards while providing efficient, professional, and personable hospitality.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-year experience in a similar role and display basic knowledge of foods and beverages, service standards and procedures.
  • English fluency required.
  • Must have current Food Handler Certificate and Responsible Beverage Service Certificate that reviews all California liquor laws.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and efficient.
  • Diplomatic and calm with strong verbal communication skills.
  • Courteous, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Good team player.
  • Customer service focus.
  • Able to work productively with little supervision.
  • Trustworthy and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive, friendly, and professional service to guests throughout their experience, anticipating needs and responding promptly to requests.
  • Welcome and acknowledge guests in a warm and engaging manner and thank them as they depart.
  • Main area of service will be the outside parklet and outdoor seating. Interior service support maybe requested.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the cocktail and beverage program, including signature and classic cocktails, spirits, wine, beer, non-alcoholic offerings, ingredients, preparation methods, and current selections.
  • Confidently describe beverage offerings and make recommendations based on guest preferences while using appropriate suggestive-selling techniques.
  • Accurately take beverage and food orders, enter orders promptly into the POS system, and coordinate with bartenders, culinary team members, and other service staff to ensure timely delivery.
  • Serve cocktails and other beverages promptly and professionally, ensuring appropriate glassware, presentation, garnishes, and overall quality before delivery to the guest.
  • Regularly monitor assigned tables and service areas, anticipate additional beverage needs, clear used glassware and dishes, and maintain a clean, organized, and inviting guest environment.
  • Maintain awareness of guest alcohol consumption and follow all PlumpJack policies and applicable laws regarding responsible alcohol service.
  • Verify identification when required and follow established procedures regarding underage guests, intoxicated guests, and situations in which alcohol service should be limited or discontinued.
  • Must always adhere to all California and San Francisco alcoholic beverage laws.
  • Communicate guest concerns, complaints, unusual situations, or service issues promptly to the General Manager and/or Restaurant Manager.
  • Accurately open, maintain, close, and present guest checks and follow all procedures for cash, credit card, gift certificate, House Account, and other transactions.
  • Record and document all House Account tabs in accordance with PlumpJack policies.
  • Complete assigned opening, closing, stocking, and side-work responsibilities, including maintaining appropriate supplies, glassware, service items, and beverage-related materials.
  • Maintain proper care, cleanliness, and organization of glassware, tableware, trays, and service equipment while handling items appropriately to minimize breakage.
  • Work collaboratively with bartenders and other team members to maintain an efficient flow of service, particularly during high-volume periods.
  • Maintain awareness of the pace and atmosphere of the restaurant, bar, or lounge and adjust service appropriately to provide an enjoyable guest experience.
  • Represent the Restaurant and PlumpJack in a positive and professional manner and, when requested, participate in special events and other activities that support guest and community relationships.
  • Promote and comply with all PlumpJack policies, procedures, service standards, and safety requirements.
  • Immediately report suspicious activity, unsafe conditions, accidents, or other hazards and take appropriate precautions to protect guests, coworkers, and oneself.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of assigned work areas and equipment.
  • Attend mandatory meetings, trainings, beverage education sessions, and tastings as directed.
  • Perform additional duties and cross-training as requested by management.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality expectations outlined in the PlumpJack Employee Handbook.
  • Report to work as scheduled, in the required uniform and appearance standards, and prepared to begin work at the scheduled start time.
