About The Position

This position is with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, a private, not-for-profit educational, historic, and cultural institution that owns and operates one of the largest and best-known museum complexes in the world. The foundation's mission is to preserve and restore 18th-century Williamsburg, Virginia’s colonial capital, engaging, informing, and inspiring people to learn about this historic capital, the events that occurred here, and the diverse peoples who helped shape a new nation. The foundation operates five world-class accommodations, including the Williamsburg Lodge Autograph Collection, and numerous on-site restaurants and taverns. Upon being hired for this position, you will enter a 90-day Part-Time Probationary status, working up to 40 hours per week. After completing the probationary period, you will become eligible for Full-Time status with benefits.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age due to A.B.C. § 4.1-307
  • 1 - 2 years server experience in a full service restaurant.
  • Excellent public contact skills to include tact, courtesy and patience.
  • Ability to meet the standards listed below; satisfy customers under all circumstances; communicate effectively; read and write, perform basic mathematical computations and memorize the food and beverages offered; learn and communicate relevant dining information to guests.
  • Physical requirements include but are not limited to: Bending, lifting, stooping; Carrying trays weighing up to 50 pounds; Extensive use of stairs.
  • Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a current Williamsburg James City County food handler’s card and TIPS® certification; applicants with an active card and certification should be prepared to present both during the interview process.
  • In accordance with Virginia A.B.C. § 4.1-225 Colonial Williamsburg prohibits employment of anyone in an alcohol serving position who has been convicted of a felony, any crime involving moral turpitude (lying, cheating, or stealing), or a drug-related offense within the past five (5) years.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests hospitably and serve them efficiently providing proper food and beverage service.
  • Learn and describe menu items to guests including chef specials.
  • Suggest wine and other beverages.
  • Responsible for standard table set-up procedures and cleanliness of the dining room.
  • Other duties as required.
