About The Position

The Coatings Technician will support the daily operation of the Thermal Spray Coatings cell by executing day-to-day activities within the thermal spray cell and supporting coating development through equipment setup, run-offs, processing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of standard work. This role is critical to enabling safe, efficient, and repeatable thermal spray operations that support technology development, process validation, and gas turbine hardware applications. This person will work closely with engineers to execute coating trials, support process development, and ensure the thermal spray cell operates reliably and safely.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, technical diploma, associate degree, or equivalent hands-on technical experience in a manufacturing, repair, or development environment in thermal spray operations;
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience operating thermal spray coating equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience specifically within a gas turbine manufacturing, repair, or advanced engineering lab environment;
  • Demonstrated track record processing complex Gas Turbine HGP (Hot Gas Path) and combustion components;
  • Advanced familiarity with Oerlikon Metco and Praxair specific software and complex cell diagnostic tools;
  • Experience implementing Lean methodologies or process optimization tools within a technical manufacturing environment;
  • Proven ability to quickly master new spray processes, emerging coating technologies, and evolving automation software.

Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day operation of the thermal spray cell, including setup, execution, teardown, and housekeeping activities;
  • Execute thermal spray run-offs and process trials to support coating development, qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Set up and operate Oerlikon Metco and Praxair thermal spray equipment in accordance with established procedures and technical requirements;
  • Perform robotic and table calibration activities supporting the global repair shops to ensure accurate and repeatable coating application;
  • Prepare and process a variety of gas turbine hardware for coating development and evaluation activities;
  • Handle, identify, and manage metallic and ceramic powders used in gas turbine thermal spray applications, following required safety and handling procedures;
  • Support equipment readiness by verifying proper machine setup, consumables, process parameters, and calibration status prior to execution;
  • Troubleshoot thermal spray cell issues, including equipment, setup, powder feeders, motion control, and process consistency concerns;
  • Work closely with engineers to execute development plans, collect observations, and provide feedback on process performance;
  • Maintain accurate records for equipment settings, run conditions, calibration checks, powder usage, and trial execution;
  • Assist in maintaining standard work, operating procedures, and visual management tools for the thermal spray cell;
  • Support preventive maintenance, routine inspections, and coordination of repairs for coating cell equipment;
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety, quality, and operational standards;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance cell reliability, process consistency, and productivity.
