About The Position

The Coatings Manufacturing Engineer will lead Vapor Phase Aluminide (VPA) Coating processes within our advanced aerospace manufacturing operations at the East Hartford, CT site. Current and future part designs have a growing demand for VPA coatings. This role will be responsible for driving process excellence, implementing best practices, supporting production needs, qualifying new equipment, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. The candidate will demonstrate technical project management, interpersonal and team skills, as well as strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing business requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field required.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in aerospace coatings.
  • Requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • May have broad knowledge of project management.
  • Requires substantial knowledge of RTX projects, programs or systems in order to provide enhancements within job area.
  • Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the VPA coating process, ensuring adherence to specifications, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Develop, document, and implement best practices to ensure repeatability, reliability, and high yield across VPA operations.
  • Provide technical support to resolve production issues, address nonconformances, and maintain throughput.
  • Lead structured problem solving activities using RCCA tools and methodologies to address quality, yield, and equipment issues.
  • Drive initiatives focused on OEE, FPY, and cost reduction while ensuring compliance with quality requirements.
  • Lead procurement of new equipment and supporting systems.
  • Lead part and equipment qualifications.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to technicians and operators on process fundamentals, troubleshooting, and best practices.
  • Assist in MRL (Manufacturing Readiness Level) of new process to align with program requirements.
  • Pursue operational excellence as subject matter expert for next generation coating processes; Drive product cost reduction and ensure targets are achieved through data driven process improvements and deployment of new technologies.
