About The Position

The Coating Technician assists experienced painters with preparing and applying industrial coatings to steel structures, piping, railcars, tank trailers, and other facility paint projects. The role involves learning to use coating tools, surface-preparation techniques, and safety procedures. It may provide a pathway to Level A Coating Technician status through on-the-job training and classroom instruction.

Requirements

• Basic math, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
• Dependable and able to manage time effectively.
• Ability to work independently or as a team member.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Previous industrial or commercial painting experience preferred, but not required.
• Basic knowledge of paint equipment and gauges.

Responsibilities

• Clean, sand, mask, and prime surfaces to support proper coating adhesion.
• Learn to mix, apply, and finish industrial coatings using spraying, rolling, or brushing methods.
• Operate spray guns, brushes, and other industrial painting equipment.
• Follow safety regulations and procedures to help prevent accidents and maintain a safe work environment.
• Assist Coating Technicians A and B and the Leadman with equipment setup for spraying, equipment maintenance, and safety.
• Check that finished work meets specified quality standards and customer requirements.
• Dispose of garbage and paint cans appropriately and clean equipment after use, including purging paint lines and pumps.
• Help in other departments as needed.
