This role involves preparing metal surfaces for coating and applying various types of coatings in a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include operating sandblasting and arc spray equipment, mixing and applying paints, inspecting surfaces, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety and quality procedures. The position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and teamwork.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Work in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, gloves, hearing protection, and other required equipment.

Nice To Haves

Prior coating, sandblasting, or manufacturing experience preferred but not always required.
Basic Microsoft Office skills may be preferred for documentation.

Responsibilities

Operate sandblasting equipment to prepare metal surfaces for coating, selecting appropriate abrasive media and achieving required surface cleanliness and anchor profile.
Inspect blasted surfaces for cleanliness and quality before coating.
Maintain blast hoses, nozzles, compressors, and dust collection systems.
Set up, operate, and monitor arc spray (thermal spray) equipment according to work instructions and specifications.
Prepare surfaces before thermal spray application to ensure proper coating adhesion.
Select and install correct spray wire and adjust machine parameters for arc spraying.
Apply coatings to meet specified thickness, quality, and customer requirements.
Inspect coated surfaces for defects and perform touch-ups when required.
Mix paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
Apply primers, intermediate coats, and finish coats using spray guns or other approved methods.
Monitor coating thickness and curing requirements.
Inspect painted surfaces for coverage, finish quality, and defects.
Clean and maintain painting equipment after use.
Maintain production records and quality documentation.
Ensure proper containment and disposal of spent materials.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and training programs.
Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance.
Report equipment malfunctions and quality issues promptly.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area (5S practices).
Work collaboratively with supervisors, managers, and other departments.
Follow all safety procedures, including the use of appropriate PPE and ventilation systems.
Follow all NOV Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) and Quality Management System (QMS) procedures.
Assist with other shop duties as assigned.
