This role is responsible for various coating processes within the facility, including blasting, arc spraying, and painting. The technician will ensure surfaces are properly prepared, coatings are applied according to specifications, and quality standards are met. The position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in an industrial environment.

Requirements

  • Work in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, gloves, hearing protection, and other required equipment.

  • Prior coating, sandblasting, or manufacturing experience.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills may be preferred for documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate sandblasting equipment to prepare metal surfaces for coating, selecting appropriate abrasive media and achieving required surface cleanliness and anchor profile.
  • Inspect blasted surfaces for cleanliness and quality before coating and maintain blast hoses, nozzles, compressors, and dust collection systems.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor arc spray equipment according to work instructions and specifications, preparing surfaces for proper coating adhesion.
  • Select and install correct spray wire, adjust machine parameters, and apply coatings to meet specified thickness, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Inspect coated surfaces for defects and perform touch-ups when required.
  • Mix paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and apply primers, intermediate coats, and finish coats using spray guns or other approved methods.
  • Monitor coating thickness and curing requirements, and inspect painted surfaces for coverage, finish quality, and defects.
  • Clean and maintain painting equipment after use.
  • Maintain production records and quality documentation.
  • Ensure proper containment and disposal of spent materials.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and training programs.
  • Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and quality issues promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area (5S practices).
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, managers, and other departments.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including the use of appropriate PPE and ventilation systems.
  • Follow all NOV Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) and Quality Management System (QMS) procedures.
  • Assist with other shop duties as assigned.
