About The Position

The Park Board of Trustees in Galveston is looking to hire a full-time Coastal Zone Management Beach Cleaning Technician to assist in maintaining our beaches through September 2026. This maintenance position earns a competitive wage of $17.30/hour. We also offer hospitalization, STD, and LTD policies that are fully paid for by the employer. This seasonal full-time position is expected to run through September 2026. The Park Board of Trustees is responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB) and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). The Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and beach user fees for the parks that they manage. Tourism pays for tourism as no sales or property tax is collected by the Park Board. The nine-member board is comprised of volunteer residents with diverse business backgrounds. Each is required to serve at least two years and must also serve on one of the Park Board's advisory committees. Requirements

At least 18 years of age
Holds a valid class C Texas driver's license
Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification or ability to become certified (CTA training provided by the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees upon hire)
Ability to drive vehicles in adverse weather conditions
Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor
Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours a day
Skilled at driving a 3/4 ton truck with or without manual transmission
Basic math skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to work well with others
Reliable and responsible

Responsibilities

Drive and operate beach cleaning vehicles
Remove debris from beaches
Place equipment in trailers or trucks and ensure everything is secured correctly for transport to the warehouse
Use hand tools to effectively complete all work tasks
Rake the beaches when needed to maintain their appearance
Use a two-way radio to keep up communication with supervisors
Work closely with the parks, beach patrol, and other departments
Accurately complete written department forms
Provide labor for special events
Promote good public relations through friendly and helpful communication with visitors
Work effectively with other employees to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner
Contribute to the successful operation of the park
