About The Position

This is a time-limited position. It is full-time (40 hours per week) with State Benefits for a limited time. Although the length of time this position will be active cannot be determined, it has the potential to extend up to 3 years (36 months). This Coastal Resiliency Specialist position primary has the responsibility for coordinating the NC Resilient Coastal Communities Program, which was created to assist coastal communities in building their capacity to be more resilient to storms, flooding, and other coastal hazards. The program is funded primarily through State appropriations and awards grants to coastal communities for local vulnerability assessments and resilience planning. The program supports coastal communities with pre-disaster planning and developing shovel-ready projects to improve the resilience of their residents, and their built and natural environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Jointly administer a competitive grants program and budget for technical assistance to communities to increase their adaptive capacity and administer grant contracts and associated reporting. Includes drafting and issuing Requests for Applications, communicating with potential applicants, and coordinating application reviews and selections.
  • Administer grant contracts with RCCP technical assistance providers, including contract execution, invoicing and payments, budget and progress tracking, reporting, amendments, and closeout.
  • Coordinate technical assistance for vulnerability assessments and mitigation planning, public outreach, and engagement, and supporting the information and service needs of local coastal communities.
  • Coordinate training workshops for technical assistance providers.
  • Support organizational and external partners such as local governments, NGOs, academia, and the private sector, on efforts and funding to advance coastal hazards resilience.
