About The Position

The Varsity Head Baseball Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Baseball Program. This role involves developing, planning, and conducting practices, as well as implementing training programs to enhance student-athletes' skills and knowledge. The coach will foster skill development, discipline, and sportsmanship, while also monitoring academic performance to ensure eligibility. A key aspect of the role is to motivate and mentor student-athletes both on and off the field, and to schedule a full season of competition. The coach will also instruct and guide student-athletes in the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Promoting good sportsmanship amongst all involved parties is crucial. The coach must cooperate with the School Athletic Director and the District Athletic Department, adhering to all requirements mandated by the CPS District Board of Education, The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) regarding Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification and the ODE Pupil Activity Permit. Awareness and implementation of all applicable administrative policies are required, along with following the CPS District Athletic Department Policies as outlined in the Coaches Handbook. The coach will serve as a role model, demonstrating timeliness, good sportsmanship, and respect. Maintaining appropriate conduct, accepting constructive criticism, and participating in clinics to improve coaching performance are also expected. Ensuring the safety and well-being of student-athletes, preparing the team for opponents, and caring for equipment are essential duties.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Baseball rules, game skills, planning, tactics, and training techniques.
  • Fundraising experience.
  • Prior experience coaching baseball preferred.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, techniques, and strategies of the sport.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Ability to work well with coaches, athletic directors, students, and parents.
  • Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the High School and/or College level preferred.
  • Provide satisfactory result of County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and a FBI Fingerprint Background Check.
  • Possess an Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
  • Provide proof of completion of Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience coaching baseball preferred.
  • Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the High School and/or College level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Varsity Head Baseball Coach.
  • Develop, plan, and conduct practices.
  • Implement training programs to enhance student-athletes skills and knowledge.
  • Foster skills development, discipline, and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
  • Monitor student-athletes academic performance to ensure they meet eligibility requirements.
  • Motivate and mentor student-athletes on and off the Field.
  • Schedule a full season of competition including State Tournament games.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
  • Promote good sportsmanship amongst teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and fans.
  • Cooperate with the School Athletic Director and the District Athletic Department.
  • Adhere to all requirements mandated by the CPS District Board of Education, The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) relative to the mandated Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/ Certification and the ODE Pupil Activity Permit.
  • Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative polices set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendents of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, ODE, and OHSAA.
  • Follow the CPS District Athletic Department Policies as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria as outlined in the job description.
  • Serve as a role model.
  • Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes including timeliness to practices and games, good sportsmanship, and being respectful while upholding the disciplines of the program.
  • Maintain an appropriate conduct towards student-athletes, officials, and spectators at all times.
  • Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
  • Participate in Clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
  • Participate in School events (i.e., Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Ensure that team is well-prepared for opponents.
  • Care and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
