About The Position

CASES' youth programs aim to help New York City's systems-impacted young people to lead productive lives. Our approach is distinguished by individualized case management, evidence-based programming, and group activities that build positive peer associations. For many, this is the first time in their lives that they are participating in activities that help them set personal goals and develop the skills they need to reach them. Fair Futures is a youth-led advocacy movement and coalition of 100+ organizations advocating for young people who are system-involved in New York City to have access to the individualized supports they need to achieve their potential. Fair Futures is also a comprehensive model that includes a middle school program that prepares students for success in high school and a coaching program where young people ages 13+ are matched with a full-time, professionally trained Coach. Coaches provide emotional support to young people, believe in them, and help them with their academic, career development, housing, and life goals. As a Fair Futures Coach Supervisor, you will: Be part of this successful, innovative, and collaborative movement that is changing the landscape of child welfare and juvenile justice; Join a close community of over 500 Fair Futures passionate professionals across 30 organizations that has a strength-based, celebratory, and youth-centered culture; Provide support to Coaches who will make an immediate impact in the lives of young people by helping them carve out a pathway to success in life, as they define it; Receive significant professional development supports from the Center for Fair Futures, including quality trainings and workshops on every topic you will need to succeed as a Coach Supervisor, unlimited 1:1 support in any area, 1:1 professional coaching to help YOU with your goals, and access to a learning community for Fair Futures leaders across agencies where you can share best practices, challenges, build your network, and be celebrated. The overall goals of the Fair Futures program model are to help young people: Build trusting relationships and a network of positive adult and peer supports; Prepare for and graduate from high school; Connect to and persist in post-secondary settings; Engage in career exploration and career development experiences in line with their interests to help them eventually navigate onto a living wage career pathway; Gain independent living and life skills. As a full-time employee of CASES you will also be a key part of CASES' MAAP program community. MAAP (Mentoring and Advocacy Program) is an individualized, strength- and advocacy-based wraparound support services program provided by mentors who work individually with youth up to 20 hours per week, based on needs of each youth, for 6 months. Fair Futures Coaches will engage with youth during their time with MAAP and will ramp up formal coaching support after the 6-month MAAP program concludes, sticking with young people through age 24. The Supervisor’s overall job is to help create a strength-based, trauma-informed environment and provide ongoing management, direction, and support to up to 4-5 Coaches and Specialists in building relationships with young people and helping them progress towards their goals. To achieve this, Supervisors perform a variety of supervision and management daily duties. However, the work changes often according to the needs of the young people served by the Supervisor’s team.

Requirements

A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
Bachelor’s degree; AND/OR a “credible messenger” (has a background in foster care, criminal legal system, or other systems-involvement), with some post-secondary experience (e.g., some college), with significant experience (4+ years) working with young people in a professional, paid role
Must have a proven track record of successfully leading a team or teams, fostering a healthy workplace culture, and evidence of positive programmatic impact
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience reading reports related to programmatic data, including the competency to use a data reporting platform
Ability to work some evening and weekend hours as needed is expected
Ability to participate in in-person and virtual Teams meetings (cubicle, office, and conference room settings)
Ability to meet youth and families in their homes and schools
Ability to accompany youth and coach team on outings to cultural institutions, movie screenings, colleges, etc. via public transit or passenger van

Responsibilities

Support Coaches and Specialists in their efforts to build authentic, trusting relationships with young people, including sharing effective engagement techniques
Support Coaches and Specialists in building relationships with the young people’s families and other key adults in their lives
Guide Coaches and Specialists to use Motivational Interviewing techniques and the Fair Futures Coaching Language framework to develop and follow action plans with young people
Support Coaches and Specialists with the academic and career development goal-setting process, including walking through how to use the process maps and dashboards, and selecting goals based on that young person’s situation in the online platform
Help Coaches and Specialists navigate the DOE and other systems, as needed
Help Coaches and Specialists prevent and navigate crises, as they arise
Supervisors monitor the progress Coaches and Specialists are making with young people through regular supervision sessions (typically weekly) and ensure Coaches and Specialists are taking appropriate steps to help young people progress and plan for the next step on their journeyTo prepare for supervision, the Supervisor should review key data in advance (including any progress notes, new academic data, and goals/steps completed over the last week). During the session, the Supervisor can debrief with Coaches and Specialists on the status of their relationship with young people, any crisis situations, goal-setting progress, etc
Acknowledge and celebrate Coaches and Specialists’ strengths and progress
Identify areas for growth
Provide appropriate skill development opportunities
Conduct team meetings with Coaches and Specialists and facilitate relevant conversations, such as: Best-practice engagement and coaching techniques, Shared challenges across the team, Upcoming events, training, and/or group activities
