About The Position

Embark on a fulfilling career at BNSF Railway where joining the Mechanical Department offers you the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team focused on safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. The Coach Cleaner position maintains the cleanliness and appearance of train coaches. This is a full-time (40hrs/wk) position and is subject seniority-based union agreement-governed shift assignment, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Mechanical shops operate 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Travel is minimal. Training for this position is company-paid on-the-job training.

Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • At least 18 years of age or will be by the start date listed above.
  • Available to work in geographic area indicated.
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
  • Able to work the above shift/hours.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate (speak, hear, and communicate) in English.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Ability to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling.
  • Ability to climb ladders and get on/off equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally work from various heights.
  • Ability to bend, walk, stand, and sit occasionally with breaks.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures; wear the required personal protective equipment.
  • Union membership is with the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and union dues are required per union agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Supplying and cleaning inside and outside of passenger train cars: removing garbage from cars, sweeping, mopping, cleaning (windows, bathrooms, seats), polishing stainless steel, and other assigned duties.
  • Cleaning and servicing passenger car toilets and hand sanitizers, as well as updating Metra magazines and fliers as needed.
  • Operating yard vehicles (water buggies, garbage tractors) safely and in compliance with guidelines.
  • Covering service at Chicago Union Station, plugging and unplugging the trains as a Utility worker.
